On Thursday, 7 May, the main celebration ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Institute for Physical Planning of Primorsko-Goranska County was held at the Marble Hall of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral. The presentation of the monograph and the book of proceedings was followed by a conference on the topic of "Physical Planning as a Development Factor in Counties".
The county president, assistant ministers, directors of county institutes from the whole of Croatia, mayors and municipality heads from Primorsko-Goranska County, representatives of the Croatian Institute for Spatial Development, Institute for Tourism, entrepreneurs, County department heads, many associates and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.
The celebration ceremony featured a film about the Public Institution Institute for Physical Planning of Primorsko-Goranska County and a presentation of the Monograph and Book of Proceedings published on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Institute. The Institute also awarded special certificates of recognition to the following persons: Franjo Širola, Jasenka Rechner, Elvira Liguori, Orhida Erny, Mirjana Mamić and Gordana Uroda. County President Zlatko Komadina awarded a special certificate of recognition to the Public Institution Institute for Physical Planning of PGC which was received, on behalf of the Institute, by its director Mr Mladen Črnjar.
Many congratulations were received for the anniversary, including the words of congratulations delivered in person by the members of the profession, namely by Ms Nevenka Ožanić, Vice-Rector for Investment and Development of the University of Rijeka, Mr Ninoslav Dusper, director of Croatian Urban Planning Institute and president of the Association of Croatian Urban Planners, on behalf of Croatian urban planners, and Ms Nives Kozulić, director of Physical Planning Institute of Zadar County, on behalf of all county physical planning institutes.
The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb and the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija of the University of Rijeka were the co-organizers of the conference on the topic of "Physical Planning as a Development Factor in Counties". Following the introductory addresses by Prof. Mladen Črnjar, PhD, Prof. Boris Koružnjak, MSc, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, and Prof. Dora Smolčić Jurdana, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija, esteemed experts in the field of physical planning, whose papers are published in the Book of Proceedings, delivered their presentations as well.
The Monograph and the Book of Proceedings are divided into two parts. The first part depicts the development of physical and urban planning in Rijeka with the emphasis on the development within the context of Primorsko-Goranska County. The second part depicts numerous spatial plans, studies and expert documents produced by the Institute during the time it operated as a county institution. A total of 38 very professional and interesting papers were produced by 56 authors and divided into four sections within the Book of Proceedings: general topics, physical planning, physical planning in the county, and tourism. The review of the Proceedings was done by Professor Emeritus Ivanka Avelini Holjevac.
