THE FIRST STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP OF THE HORIZON CLIMA MOUNTRESILIENCE PROJECT TOOK PLACE

On 28th November 2025, the first stakeholder workshop of the MountResilience project, which is implemented within the framework of the HORIZON Clima programme and is focused on encouraging transformative adaptation to climate change in the mountainous areas of Europe, was held in Risnjak National Park.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Urbanex d.o.o., who are participating as partners in the project, along with the participation of representatives of relevant institutions at the local and regional levels and various stakeholders from the Gorski Kotar region.

In the first part of the workshop, in addition to presenting the results of the project itself, an insight into the existing scope of climate change impacts in the fields of forestry, climatology, biodiversity and health protection was given. Possible approaches in dealing with the consequences of climate change were also presented with examples of good practices.

The second, practical part of the workshop focused on identifying the priority climate risks and assessing the acceptability of existing solutions and actions. The exchange of expert experiences and views within the framework of the topics: biodiversity, tourism and forestry, contributed to creating a common understanding of the challenges facing mountain regions and opened up the possibilities for strengthening cooperation and implementing further activities regarding strengthening the resilience and more sustainable development of Gorski Kotar.

The MountResilience project seeks to develop new solutions for the ecological, economic and social challenges faced by mountain areas of Europe, with a particular emphasis on preserving ecosystem services, spatial identity and long-term important resources.
