On Wednesday, 10th July 2024, the first presentation of the MountResilience – Accelerating Transformative Climate Adaptation for Greater Resilience in European Mountain Regions project was held at the Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
In the project that started on 1st September 2023, the Institute is participating as a project partner together with the company Urbanex d.o.o. from Zagreb, representing the area of Gorski Kotar in the project. The general goal of the project is to help European highland and mountain areas and communities increase their capacity to adapt to climate change and the transition towards a more climate-resilient society.
The project is being carried out in the area of ten significant mountain massifs of Europe and includes activities from the domain of scientific research in the sense of defining new concepts of adaptation, from the area of the real sector in the framework of finding new ways of doing business based on natural solutions and viable business models.
The project also deals with the preparation of a strategic and formal framework for adaptation to climate change, as well as the preparation of pre-investment studies for concrete interventions in areas affected by climate hazards. Through the project, various digital solutions, tools, and models for predicting the future influences of climate change, involving the public and the decision-making process, will also be developed.
The area of Gorski Kotar has the role of a replication area foreseen for the presentation, confirmation and testing of the results developed through the project. Activities in the area of Gorski Kotar begin in 2025 and will involve the participation of various institutions, companies and associations facing various challenges brought about by climate change. In this sense, the Croatian partners who are participating in the project made a preliminary presentation of the project to recognised key stakeholders: The Public Institution for Protected Area Management of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (Priroda) and the Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (CPRR), with the aim of exchanging information and gaining a more detailed insight into the influences and challenges associated with climate change that the Gorski Kotar area is facing.
