This year’s Open Days were organised by the Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County for the ninth year in a row, with the aim of introducing high school students to the work of spatial planning and the contemporary challenges that arise in the field of spatial management.
In the same way, the Open Days event aims to help in the future focusing of students regarding the choice of a possible profession, as well as their awareness of the future role of responsible citizens and active stakeholders in physical planning.
The participants of the Open Doors event were received by the director of the Institute, Adam Butigan, together with his colleagues.
Through thematically focused educational presentations about spatial planning, the Institute’s experts brought the work of spatial planning closer to the students, and pointed out the importance and benefits of planning for the purpose of sustainable spatial management. In addition to this, they explained the possibilities and elaborated upon the needs for active public participation in planning, as well as the important role of a whole range of professions in spatial planning. The students found out about the types of infrastructure and the importance of its planning, as well as about digital tools that make spatial planning a modern discipline and the information about spatial plans and spatial planning available and adapted to all interested users. In addition to the theoretical interpretation, the students had the opportunity to view the Institute’s archives, equipment and devices.
The Institute’s Open Days event is one of the ways in which the Institute continuously, proactively and affirmatively raises the public’s awareness of spatial management issues and encourages an active environment in which citizens realise their role as stakeholders in spatial planning.
During the three days of the Institute’s Open Days event, almost a hundred students attended accompanied by their professors from: The First Croatian Secondary School of Sušak in Rijeka, the Salesian Classical Secondary School, the First Croatian Secondary School in Rijeka, the Andrija Mohorovičić Gymnasium in Rijeka and the Rijeka Construction Secondary School.
