13TH SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ‘CHALLENGES OF EUROPE: GROWTH, COMPETITIVENESS, INNOVATION AND WELL-BEING' TOOK PLACE

The 13th scientific conference 'Challenges of Europe: Growth, Competitiveness, Innovation and Well-being' the oldest and most significant scientific meeting of economists in the Republic of Croatia, as well as Europe and the world, was held from 22nd – 24th May 2019 in Bol on the island of Brač.

The conference was held by Faculty of Economics in Split in partnership with the Representation of the European Commission in the Republic of Croatia and under the high auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia.

Key lectures were held by two Novel Prize winners for economy, and also by professors from the Harvard University. Prof Eric Maskin and Prof Oliver Hart. Alongside them numerous other renowned global economists also gave lectures - Prof Olivier Blanchard, President of the American Association of Economists; Prof Edward Glaeser, the leading global expert on urban themes; then Prof Koen Pauwels, head economist at the European Investment Bank, Debora Revoltella PhD; and the head economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Prof Sergei Guriev.

Along with the plenary sessions, there was also an extremely large number of presentations by various experts and scientific researchers. An employee of the Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in collaboration with colleagues from the Institute of Economics in Zagreb held a presentation titled: Capturing and measuring land-use changes? Case of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and as part of the session with the title: Progress in spatial, urban and regional development – Case of Croatia.
