The Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is participating in the CRESCO Adria project as a partner.

    The conference was used for presentations, analyses and confrontation of the complex challenges posed by climate change.   • Leading spatial planner Gorana Ljubičić gave a presentation about the spatial planning system in the Republic of Croatia, spatial planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the development of the city of Rijeka and the port of Rijeka, as well as about the scope of work and the Institute’s recent projects.

    At the end, she answered questions from students and professors about the key problems of spatial planning, urban and regional development, and the further development of spatial infrastructure and strategic projects.

    THE ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE SPATIAL PLANNING PROCESS WORKSHOP

    As part of the implementation of the CRESCO Adria INTERREG Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 project, on 8th May 2025, the workshop entitled The Adaptation Climate Change in the Spatial Planning Process was held at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Rijeka, jointly organised by the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

    The workshop presented the project’s activities to date to key stakeholders from the fields of water management, forestry, nature protection and agriculture in order to gain a critical insight into specific sectoral pressures and challenges regarding climate change and appropriate responses from the domain of spatial planning.

    The experiences, knowledge and thoughts of stakeholders proved to be essential for the further creation of long-term assumptions for integral and sustainable spatial management.

    CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACT ON THE LIFE OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY – INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

    The Šipan Academy, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, the University of Dubrovnik, the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, and with the support of the Stiftung Überbrücken Foundation, organised the 5th international workshop for sustainable development entitled Climate change and its impact on the life of the local community, which was held from 7th to 10th May 2025 in Suđurađ on the island of Šipan.

    The workshop brought together Croatian and foreign scientists and experts, who, in the context of global climate challenges, discussed their impact on the space and life of a local community.

    The Institute gave a presentation at the workshop entitled Experiences and Perspectives: the Vulnerability of the Coastal Area of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County due to Climate Change and Sea Level Rise.

    The presentation showcased the results of research conducted within the framework of the projects Analysis of the Vulnerability of the Coastal Area of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County due to rising sea level and Analysis of the threat of coastal flooding of vulnerable areas of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and also presented was the web browser of the vulnerability of the coastal area of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County due to sea level rise.
