As part of the implementation of the CRESCO Adria INTERREG Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 project, on 10th July 2025, a workshop entitled The Adaptation to Climate Change in the Spatial Planning Process was held at the Faculty of Economics, University of Rijeka, with the aim of implementing the obligations from the first work package regarding integral adaptation.

The Institute for Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County participates in the project as a partner and is responsible for the development of Strategic Guidelines for Climate-Resilient Spatial Planning. The workshop presented previous analyses related to the transformation of spatial use, the assessment of hazards and exposure to pluvial floods and the development of a landslide inventory for the Town of Novi Vinodolski and the Vinodol Municipality.

In a discussion with selected key stakeholders from the field of public administration at the local and regional levels, it was concluded that it is necessary to evaluate the spatial, historical, natural and infrastructural features, take into account expected climate impacts and provide the necessary “space” for them, clearly define limitations and opportunities, and find and define methods for integrating expected climate pressures for application in future planning processes.
